Juliane Heise " the traveler" Februar/März 2002

Als Juliane Heise 1998 zu einem Skulpturensymposium nach Vietnam reiste, entdeckte sie die Planen als signifikantes Element im Strassenbild: Plastikfolie in rot-weiß-blau. Hierzulande kennt man das Material von den billigen Reisetaschen, dort als Absperrung, provisorische Behausung oder Kiosk, auch als Bauplane, in grossen Ballen auf dem Markt, als Markise, Regenschutz und Überdachung fragiler Bambusarchitektur. Dieses rot-weiß-blaue Phänomen in Ost und West hatte eine Reihe von Arbeiten zur Folge. Eine davon, "die Reisenden" ist bei sox36 zu sehen.

The striped blue, white and red plastic fabric that in this country is known in the form of cheap traveling bags, forms the material base for this installation. Inspired by a visite to Viet Nam, the artist discovered that this plastic fabric dominated the whole scenery, to close roads, as temporary houses or shops, or to protect fragile bamboo architecture. This phenomenon from east to west has lead the artist to create several works using this material, for sox36 she created the installation "the traveler".
